Career Achieve
The Career Achieve Program is an economic empowerment initiative designed to make adults who are receiving social service assistance and the working poor more viable, self-sufficient participants in the economy. It is also an important instrument in bridging the “Digital Divide” in our country. The Program provides skills and training for adults in the social services system in a manner that is sustainable through existing resources and helps to prepare them to compete in a global economy and become truly self-reliant.
The program was developed to help improve academic learning by making the home an important learning center and providing training skills for good paying jobs. It also helps to fill some of the voids that have been created by the changes in the welfare system. Legislation that has successfully lowered the welfare rolls over the past ten years has also created an economic strain on the social services system in the areas of child-care, skills advancement, and program tracking and compliance.
The Career Achieve platform was created in 2006 and is currently being utilized by the New York State Department of Adult Education and Workforce Preparation (www.e-literacyNY.org) and the Community College of the District of Columbia (www.careerachieve.org). It has also been utilized in Florida pilot programs in Palm Beach County, Leon County, and Indian River school systems under a program known as MY FAVES.
