HIPAA Compliance

With the passing of the Health information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), HIPAA can no longer be dismissed as a minor annoyance. While civil penalties have not yet become commonplace, the bill strengthened and expanded privacy and security requirements in five key areas. As a result, health care providers will have to review and potentially modify their privacy and security policies and practices to be prepared for the heightened scrutiny that comes with direct regulation by HHS. Corstar’s practice experts can help guide you through it all.

Client/Server vs. ASP

Like most software products, EHR software comes in all shapes and sizes. Some are known for their user interface, others for their low price point. Some come with a Client/Server set-up, software that resides on-site at a practitioner’s office; others are ASP-based, software that is hosted remotely. There are pro’s and con’s with both solutions that Corstar’s network engineers will guide you through. In general, the ASP model requires less upfront cost, system maintenance and upgrades are included, and your data is backed up off-site. The advantages to the client-server model include faster data speeds within the office, less dependence on an Internet connection and easier integration with office printers and scanners.
