CORSTAR
Privacy Policy
Your privacy is very important to us, and we want you to use CORSTAR
with complete confidence. We have created this Privacy Policy to
demonstrate our firm commitment to your privacy and the security
of any information you provide to us. We invite you to read this
Privacy Policy carefully and to contact us if you have any questions
or comments.
Introduction
CORSTAR may collect information in different ways from subscribers
and visitors who access the various parts of our Services and Websites.
The information we gather is used primarily for billing purposes
and to fill customer’s orders. If we have trouble processing an
order, we may use the information to contact you. We may also use
this information in an attempt to customize your experience.
CORSTAR is the sole owner of the information we collect. Generally,
we do not share this information with third parties. We may disclose
personal information we’ve collected if we believe that such disclosure
is required by law or in other circumstances as described below.
However, no personally identifiable information will ever be given
to a third party advertiser or sponsor unless you expressly grant
your permission.
Information
That We Gather
Subscribers may be asked to provide specific personal information
when they sign up for our Services including name, address, telephone
number, email address, company name and job title. We may also ask
you for billing information (such as a credit card number).
We may automatically collect IP addresses and Website usage information
when users visit our Website or use our Service. Our server logs
record the amount of time and other usage behavior of an IP address
that downloads our client software.
Please be advised that we may make content or services from other
Websites available to you from links located on the CORSTAR service.
These other Websites are not subject to this Privacy Policy. We
recommend that you review the privacy policy at each such Website
to determine how that site protects your privacy.
How We Use Information Collected The information we collect
helps us to evaluate how our visitors and subscribers use our service
and navigate our Websites on an aggregate basis, including the number
and frequency of visitors and subscribers, and the length of their
visits.
We may use information in the following specific
ways:
-
To initiate, process and validate your subscription to
a CORSTAR service.
-
To ensure you are located in a region where we are authorized
to do business.
-
To send you e-mail notifications about our new or existing
products and services, special offers, or to otherwise contact
you about your account.
-
To enhance existing features or develop new features,
products and services.
-
To allow us to personalize the content and advertising
that you and others see based on personal characteristics or
preferences.
CORSTAR may generate non-identifying and aggregate profiles from
personal information that subscribers provide during registration
(for example, we might want to tell a certain cable network the
total number of people who subscribe to our service, or more specifically,
the number of IT
Managers who subscribe to our service). As explained in more detail
below, we may use this aggregated and non-identifying information
to sell advertisements that appear on the Services.
We may also use third-party service providers to fulfill your purchase
requests or facilitate some aspects of our service (such as billing
and payment collection). These service providers may be supplied
with or have access to your personally identifiable information
solely for the purpose of providing these services to us or on our
behalf.
Online Advertisements
CORSTAR may display advertisements that are incorporated into the
TV broadcasts we transmit, as well as on the “skin” of the video
player and remote control user interfaces. We share aggregated and
non-identifying information about our subscribers collected through
the registration process with these advertisers and the cable TV
networks airing the advertisements. Additionally, in some instances,
we use this aggregated and non-identifying information to deliver
tailored advertisements. For instance, an advertiser tells us the
audience they want to reach (for example, males between 25 and 55
years of age) and provides us an advertisement tailored to the audience.
Based upon the aggregated and non-identifying information we have
collected, we may then display the advertisement to the intended
audience. CORSTAR does not share personal information about its
subscribers with these advertisers.
"Cookies" and How CORSTAR Uses
Them
A “cookie” is a small data file that can be placed on your hard
drive when you visit certain Websites. CORSTAR may use cookies to
collect, store, and sometimes track information for statistical
purposes to improve the products and services we provide and to
manage our telecommunications networks. These cookies do not enable
third parties to access any of your customer information. Usage
of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information
while on our site.
Advertisers and partners may also use their own cookies. We
do not control use of these cookies and expressly disclaim responsibility
for information collected through them.
Profile
We store information that we collect through cookies and/or log
files to create a profile of our users, but that information is
stored anonymously. Collected information is not tied to the users
personally identifiable information. This profile is used to provide
general, non-user specific and aggregated information about the
usage of our Services and our Web site. This information may be
shared with our business partners, but it is only shared in aggregate
form.
Responses to Email Inquiries
When subscribers or other individuals send email inquiries to CORSTAR,
the return email address is used to answer the email inquiry we
receive. CORSTAR may save email addresses and initiate subsequent
communications to these individuals for marketing and sales purposes.
However, CORSTAR does not share return email addresses with any
third party.
Voluntary Customer Surveys
We may periodically conduct both business and individual customer
surveys. We encourage our customers to participate in these surveys
because they provide us with important information that helps us
to improve the types of services we offer and how we provide them
to you. Your personal information and responses will remain strictly
confidential. Participation in our customer surveys is voluntary.
We take the information we receive from individuals responding to
our Customer Surveys and combine (or aggregate) it with the responses
of other CORSTAR customers to create broader, generic responses
to the survey questions (such as gender, age, residence, hobbies,
education, employment, industry sector, or other demographic information).
We then use the aggregated information to improve the quality of
our services to you, and to develop new services and products. This
aggregated, non-personally identifying information may be shared
with third parties.
Customer Service
It is our desire to communicate with users on a regular basis to
provide requested services and in regards to issues relating to
their account. We might reply via email or phone, in accordance
with the users’ wishes.
Tell-A-Friend
If a user elects to use a referral program for informing a friend
about our site, we may ask them for the friend’s name, email address,
phone number, or other personal information. CORSTAR may send the
friend an email or place a phone call inviting them to visit the
site, and may store this information in order to track the success
of our referral program. The friend may contact CORSTAR to request
the removal of this information from our database.
Special Cases
It is CORSTAR’s policy not to use or share the personal information
about subscribers in ways unrelated to the ones described above.
However, CORSTAR may disclose personal information about subscribers,
or information regarding their use of our Services, for any reason
if, in our sole discretion, we believe that it is reasonable to
do so, including: to satisfy laws, such as the Electronic Communications
Privacy Act, regulations, or governmental or legal requests for
such information; to disclose information that is necessary to identify,
contact, or bring legal action against someone who may be violating
our Subscriber Agreement or Terms of Use or other policies (for
example, when necessary to protect our intellectual property rights);
to operate the Service properly; or to protect CORSTAR and our subscribers.
CORSTAR 's Commitment to Data Security
Services and Websites we manage have security measures in place
to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under
our control. While we make every effort to ensure the integrity
and security of our network and systems, we cannot guarantee that
our security measures will prevent third-party “hackers” from illegally
obtaining this information.
Revisions to This Policy
CORSTAR reserves the right to revise, amend, or modify this policy
and our other policies and agreements at any time and in any manner.
